Job Seekers Cooking Up Success in Perth and Kinross

Group with Neil and Marion

Cook to the Future is Elevator’s inspiring employability programme aimed at engaging with all job seekers in Perth and Kinross who are looking to get back into work, develop their confidence and soft skills, and also learn about healthy eating.  Cook to the Future combines practical cookery sessions focussing on healthy and affordable one-pot meals, with sessions on how to make healthy choices when in the supermarket, as well as giving the trainees a recognisable qualificationto add to their CV.

Cook to the Future is an ideal course for those looking to move into the food retail or hospitality industries, as each programme provides 12 candidates with the opportunity to study for two nationally recognised qualifications:

•REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene
•ASDAN FoodWise Qualification

In addition to developing the programme with Perth College UHI and DWP, Elevator provides the employability sessions for the programme, which focus on the areas that many job seekers find challenging.  For example:

•CVs
•Interview techniques
•Cover letters
•Identifying existing skills
•Online applications

Participants can also receive one to one support in areas that they identify as the biggest barriers when it comes to gaining employment, such as speaking with employers on the phone and making speculative approaches.

The combination of attending college, achieving qualifications, and one to one employability advice generates a huge increase in the students’ confidence in their abilities to make healthy choices for themselves and their families, and in their work prospects.

The next Cook to the Future programme starts on the 19th April and runs until the 13th May.  Participants will attend Perth College UHI Tuesday to Friday from 10.40 to 14.00.
